Children and nature

A recent report commisioned by the National Trust, concluded that today's generation of children are out of touch with nature.

The report, entitled 'Natural Childhood' by TV producer Stephen Moss, asks parents and grandparents to help reconnect children with the natural world by passing on their experiences.

According to the research, less than 10% of children play in wild places, 50% less than a generation ago.

This trend has been a topic of Early Childhood Research and The Centre for Research in Early Childhood (CREC) in conjunction with Birmingham City University (BCU) deliver a course entitled Learning Outdoors in Early Childhood. Devised by Jan White, the module is a mix of face to face and distance learning and can count towards an MA in Education (Early Years).
