Train to become a teacher with CREC early years partnership

Recruitment for all the teacher training courses starting in September 2017 is well underway and we’re thrilled to have already received a lot of interest in our school-centred initial teacher training (SCITT).

Why study with us?

Our SCITT offers a one-year full-time early years school-based route to qualification as a primary or early years teacher (QTS). Taught sessions are provided by some of the most knowledgeable and experienced early childhood professionals in the country, including Prof Christine Pascal, Prof Tony Bertram, and Helen Moylett, and a wider team of early years tutors and placement mentors.

All our school placements are based at 'Good' or 'Outstanding' settings across Birmingham and the wider West Midlands area. The majority of our trainees who graduated last summer secured employment well before the end of the course.

We make every effort to offer a place on this course to the brightest, most passionate, and hard-working applicants who not only meet the entry criteria but who can demonstrate commitment and understanding of the profession, its challenges, and values. So, if you are considering a career in teaching, particularly if you’d like to work with young children, and you think you’ve got what it takes, we still have a few places available.

“I would recommend the School Centred Initial Teacher Training run at CREC because it has immersed me in the role of a teacher very quickly and I am finding practical ways to exercise my newly acquired knowledge every day.”

- Onkar, SCITT 2016-17

“If you’re thinking about becoming a teacher, my advice to you would be: make sure it’s something you really want to do. You should consider yourself as being organised, reliable, enthusiastic and, most of all, committed. Being a trainee teacher is full-time, it means a lot of hard work and long days. But I can assure you, if you’re cut out for it, you will thoroughly enjoy the course, as I did.”

- Lauren, SCITT 2015-16

If you would like to chat to us about the training, ask questions and meet some of the CEYP's members of staff, we will be attending a Train to Teach Roadshow in Birmingham (the ICC) on Saturday 4 February.

In addition to being able to talk to us about the teacher training, the event also provides an opportunity to:

• Obtain personalised advice from our teaching advisors on the training options open to you

• Talk to current teachers and trainees about their experience of training and what it’s like to teach

• Attend a presentation on training options, funding and the application process
