BECERA 2016 Round-up

Well it's been just over a week since the BECERA Conference wrapped for another year and we're just about coming down from a jam-packed day of early years conversations and lively debate!

We would like to extend our thanks, once again, to our marvellous Keynote speakers, Jane & Margaret, to everyone that presented, and of course to every single delegate that attended. BECERA is very much a participatory conference, and without the contributions and support from delegates sharing their work and those willing to receive it, we would not have a conference at all!
This year we explored the topic of risk, adventure and challenge in the early years. We encouraged speakers and delegates to consider children’s need to experience adventure, challenge and risk taking and to examine how the significant adults, both professional and parent, can create exciting environments, which allow or ‘afford’ the development of those essential characteristics and dispositions which lead to a more balanced life. We saw some fantastic work presented and some interesting questions were raised about the way we, as adults and early childhood professionals, view and respond to this notion of 'risk' in early childhood education. All 21 symposia presentation abstracts will be available to view and download from the BECERA online database shortly. You will need to login to your account on the BECERA website to access the database.

The subject of 'cotton wool kids' was discussed by Jane Waters as part of her keynote address and we were given a whistle-stop tour of the Together Old and Young (TOY) research project, exploring intergenerational learning with Margaret Kernan. Both keynote presentations are available to view and download on the 'Resources' page of the BECERA website.

A selection of pictures from the day have been posted on our Facebook page. Check them out and if you spot yourself or a friend make sure you tag them! If you have any photos or videos from the conference that you'd like to share, please feel free to post them on our Facebook page using #BECERA2016.

Let Us Know What You Think!

We’d really love to hear your thoughts on the 2016 conference, including your take on our first outing as a ONE-DAY event! We’ve put together a short feedback form, just 10 questions, and would really appreciate it if you could take 2-minutes to fill it in, if you haven't done so already.

Thirsty For More?!

If you can’t stand the thought of waiting a whole year for the BECERA conference to come round again, or if last week's conference has inspired you to share your own work, EECERA 2016 is just around the corner, taking place in Dublin, Ireland!

Call for Papers is open until Wednesday 9th March (that’s just 2 weeks away!) so get cracking and submit a paper now or if you just want to be a spectator at Europe’s largest early childhood research conference, Early Bird tickets are now available!
